Dedicated to my big big nose

Just as usual, whenever I pass by their area, I would call out to Cheeko and say hi.

Yesterday, was no different, only that he did not look at me back in the eye nor raise his ears to acknowledge my presence. He was just lying down there, as still as can be.

I took a closer look and shouted out to Hubby that I think Cheeko has passed away. True enough, the little fella of mine had moved on to a better place -rabbit heaven.

He was so busy eating his long beans, as happy as can be ... and was waiting for me as usual for his carrots. He always looked at me in the eye, with his head cocked slightly. He is always that cute, despite his age.

Death. Family pet. His birthday is just around the corner, an August 2006 rabbit. One month to being 6 years old.. he left behind us and his beloved Cheekie.

It is already hard on us to accept his death and having to let go of him, it must have been harder on Cheekie who was his room-mate since they were in the petshop.

Cheeko, was the smaller, younger one compared to Cheekie. It was because of Cheekie, who stayed beside him while we have already made our choice to only get one, we just had to get that little fella that Cheekie so dearly loved.

He, would hop on to the dustpan while we were trying to sweep up his little shit when he was just about a month half old. He would squeeze on top of Cheekie behind the door to hide, and play scoot with cloths that are lying on the floor. He even know how to play with ball, well, trying to hump a rolling ball isn't exactly a bright idea but that is Cheeko. He is like the family clown, that brings laughter to the family.

He, who would run after our feet, or circling our feet when he was younger, trailing after us.. the fat one left behind when Cheekie jumped out of the enclosed area to nose around the new place. He, who would jump into the food bowl if he could and quite a good mini 'lion dancer'.

He was also the 'guard dog' that guards the house from those irritating cats. He would thump his legs so loud, I could hear him from the next room.

Don't remember Cheeko? You can read back here to refresh your memory.

As I cried, Hubby stayed tough and quickly prepared everything for Cheeko's burial. We wrapped him in two clean white cloth, put his water and food bowl in as well, a note to him and his carrots and pellets.

We let Cheekie say good bye to him while we put him into the box. We drove around our housing area and came to a green field where it shows no signs of inhabitants and dug a hole deep enough to bury Cheeko and his belongings in.

I said the last goodbye to him. Its hard. It is still hard today. I have to come home and clean up his cage, scrub it clean while Cheekie looked on. She had this look on her face as if she was asking, "Where is Cheeko? Why is he not back in his cage? What are you doing to his cage? Why are you taking it out from the house? Is he not coming back?"

Maybe I think a little too much but I believe that animals do grieve but I hope it wont be too hard on Cheekie as she is also an old girl by now.

I put his cage outside the house, and while I was doing that, is that all to it? Is that all to Cheeko's life on earth? So what happens now? Moving on as if I was just cleaning up after a dead fish. Is that it, death? People clean up after you, bury you and then move on so they won't think and dwell on you anymore?

Its scary but I hope that Cheeko knows that we all love him very very much and that he will always live in our hearts.

I miss him so so much.

Year of the Rabbits

2011 in the Chinese calendar belongs to the year of the rabbits and that is what we will be having for 2011.

My baby girl Cheekie is finally pregnant, although it was a shotgun kinda thing as we were not planning for her to get pregnant throughout her life but well, guess Cheeko got past us steathily and got to her before we could get him off her.

How we found out was when I took her to hands 'n' paws veterinary clinic at aman suria and after a thorough check and an ultrasound, we saw three heartbeats down at her abdomen and well, she is lactating. Since she was malnourished as she was no longer interested in her pellets, the doctor gave us multivitamins and a concoction to boost her appetite.

She looks much more cheerful now, and she is pooing more now compared to the last two weeks.. yay! hopefully she will keep this up, increase her appetite and may the vitamins help give her all the strength and health she needs to deliver safe, stay safe and have a bunch of good litter out of her.

Cheekie is in her mid-pregnancy stage now and guess in about 2 weeks or so, we will be able to see her become a mother. Touch wood but I really hope she will have a safe delivery! I hope she will only be in labour after my Singapore trip and not when I am not at home. I don't think Simon will be able to handle it all by himself when he has his hands full already, just by handling the little boy.

We actually do not plan to keep the babies. Am thinking about either giving it away to friends who loves rabbits and know how to care for them or giving them away to the petshop.

Simon is just scared that the babies' luck will not be as good as they will be in our home but well, there is really no space to make for more rabbits. Having those two is more than enough in this household. *sigh*

What a way to usher in 2011 yea? =)

Have a hopping good Chinese New Year!!!

I cried

myself silly watching 10 Promises To My Dog.

Was so happy I found the DVD at this local DVD shop opposite my place and quickly asked the man to take it for me before Hubby finds out what I chose.

and.. ta da.. so during lunch, I popped in the DVD and well, lets just say 10 minutes into the movie, I was already rolling down tears.. and it never stopped!

The worst was when the movie was ending... That was like I was going up in sobbing hysterics...

Hubby just have to made it better by saying "Look Jaden, your mother siao wan.. simply go buy movie that can make her cry herself silly.. "

*sigh* Once in a while such movies really wakes you up to reality and making you realize that pets are part of the family.

You just can't love them when they are baby cute.. you have to keep loving them till the end..

Thats love and responsibility.

BUT after watching that movie, I don't think I would ever want to rear a dog or pets after Cheekie and Cheeko..

Its really a heartache when they leave us..

Both of them were exactly like that small when we got them.. the baby cuteness and they still remain cute in our eyes today!

So till then, I shall go and apologize to my two beloved rabbits and shower them with more attention.. It seems that I have been lacking in that department since Jaden was born and that should not be the case..

Now I can't wait for the show Marley and me.. the book is good so I hope the movie would be just as nice or better.. can't bear to watch one that is as bad as PS I Love You!

My babies, my pets!

Fatso died last week. He just got attacked by some fungi disease overnight and he died the night itself. The night before he was still fine but when I woke up in the morning, he seemed to be losing scales and his whatever blubber that grew on him.

Fatso is the biggest among all the four goldfishes that I owned.

Now, its only So Fat left. So Fat can't even come up to the surface to eat. It can only swim round and round the tank on its side. He used to swim only upside down but now, he swims on the side only. Poor little fella!

These goldfishes had been with me since New Year 2006... somehow I think I grew rather attached to them, watching them swim whenever I sit in the living room. They make me laugh with their antics at time. You must think I am crazy to laugh at goldfishes. Well, lets just say they can be quite funny at times. So blur looking..

Cheekie and Cheeko have reached their two years of age. I wonder how many is that in human years? They are still like babies to Hubby and I. Each has a different personality and temperament and they each also have their individual owner preference.

Cheekie, the girl, prefers Hubby over me. She would lick him and well, she just prefers him over me. Ever since they were babies, she would rather stick to Hubby than me. Hubby calls her his darling girl.

Then, there is the boy Cheeko who prefers me to Hubby. Cheeko would play with me and runaround my feet but when it is just Hubby and him, he would just sit under the dinner table and not do anything other than breathe through his big big nose on his round round snout.

How I got into rabbits were all because of Gwen. How Hubby got into rabbits, well, I guess it was due to his Anak and Ah Bit. Mine started with Moo Moo who Hubby claims is gay but I bet to differ. Moo was one of the best behaved smart rabbit I'd ever came across. He knows how to enjoy the Penang Hill view without trying to jump over the balcony. He who knows how to just sit there and relax. He who comes and sits and put his head on my pillow when he knows I will be heading back to Kl the next day. He eats chocolates, ice-creams and all sorts but hates durian. *sigh* I missed Moo. He is in rabbit heaven now.

For now, my concentration is all focus on Cheekie, Cheeko and So Fat only. Don't think I would have any more pets after them. Enough. Don't want anymore emotional baggage. Easy to come, hard to let go when time comes.. but well, why should I think of such things now. My little babies are still young! =)

Sakit hati

So sakit hati...

It all begun with the lectric trip on my apartment floor. It only happens to my floor. So I went to the babies' room to check and VOILA! It was like some dominoes effect that Cheeko got a sudden scare and started to hop madly around his cage, which triggered off Cheekie to do the same thing. BUT Cheekie was the one that suffered the consequence of that dominoes effect. Her head got stuck right between the cage. I shouted for Hubby to come and save her. She was already shrieking in pain. Luckily she was fine with Hubby's presence. Hubby tried to cut open the cage but the steel just wouldn't budge. He sent me down to ask the handyman for a wire-cutter only to be heard in the background of the phone call, his girl-friend or wife laughing at my request. STUPIAK! When I came back, Hubby said he managed to save Cheekie. Hubby had pulled the steel bars apart with all his strength... *sigh* those shrieks of pain and trauma by our little girl. So sakit hati.. =( Now shes all sitting in one corner, still traumatised.. hopefully she will be fine by tomorrow although she will be suffering from bruises.. so damn sakit hati... poor little bunny!
